About

Welcome to Our Nook

Some of the best evenings are the simple ones: something warm on the stove, a glass of wine poured, a good book within reach, and a little project spread across the table. The Kitchen & Nook is our home for all of it.

We’re Joseph & Louise, a husband and wife who bring two heritages to one table: Joseph’s Irish, Louise’s French Canadian. Think hearty stews and soda bread beside tourtière and maple everything, with plenty of stories and laughter in between. We live in Cary, and it all started when friends kept asking for the recipe, the perfect bottle, and the book we’d just finished.

What You’ll Find Here

  • Cooking: comforting, doable recipes for weeknights and gatherings alike. Our signature dishes are paella, shrimp fra diavolo, and tourtières.

  • Wine: approachable bottles and easy pairings from Louise, our resident sommelier, no wine degree required. Our favorite everyday red is the Famiglia Castellani Toscana Sangiovese.

  • Crafts: handmade projects for your home and for gifting. Our favorites are quilting, sewing from patterns, wreath making, and knitting.

  • Books: cozy reads, cookbooks, and book club favorites. We love the Outlander series, anything by Ken Follett, John Grisham, Dan Brown, Agatha Christie, Amor Towles, and Kristin Hannah, and many more.

  • Art: sketchbook habits, watercolor, and simple still lifes from Joseph, our resident watercolor artist.

Why These Five?

For us, these five things have always lived side by side. A pot simmering on the stove, a bottle open on the counter, a book left face-down on the arm of a chair, and a half-finished project on the table: that’s what home feels like. Between the traditions we each grew up with, in Ireland and in Québec, and the ones we’ve made together, we wanted one warm place to share it all.
